Sextortion is a type of scam where cyber-criminals blackmail victims through threats that they have obtained and will publish their sensitive, personal or embarrassing information if they fail to pay a ransom. In most cases, the attackers ask the victim to pay for the ransom in bitcoin. Most victims are threatened that the hacker targeted and accessed their webcams and that captured pictures and content will be sent to family members and friends. The scams are sent to unsuspecting victims through messages that may include personal details such as passwords, names, year of birth or address to convince them that their accounts have actually been hacked.
