What is Smishing?

< All Topics

Smishing is a form of phishing an attacker perpetrates to trick the user into revealing their personal information. The exchange of information between the attackers and his potential victim is mostly via SMS or text messages. Today, this cyber threat has become more prevalent since it utilises social engineering elements to get unsuspecting individuals to share personal data. In most cases, users are not aware that they are under a smishing attack as they are tricked into downloading and opening/installing a Trojan horse. This type of malware can expose confidential information to the attacker, who can then manipulate and exploit it.
